Piled High

April 19, 2020

Today ended on a high note, the garden plot has been officially cleared and the weeds and grass are piled high in the area that will eventually become my three-stage composting spot. While a few areas of grass and weeds remained, they are not anything that a little spray won’t handle. Incidentally, my new 4-gallon backpack sprayer arrived today!

While on the topic of spray, I had decided long ago that organic gardening was the way to go and chemical sprays that kill weeds as well as humans won’t be used. As an alternative, I read where a 20% distilled vinegar solution mixed with borax and salt is an effective grass and weed killer. I will let you know how it goes.

As for the composting area, I’m fairly excited about it. Instead of throwing vegetable and fruit scrapes in the garbage can, I can not toss them into the compost pile. It may take a while but this compost will eventually produce some amazing natural fertilizer and planting soil. In fact, I’m beginning to think that anything involving gardening takes a while. Lord, please give me an extra portion of patience that I may be blessed by its fruit.
